IKEA RUDSTA Display Case: Spare Parts, Hinges and Troubleshooting Guide

IKEA RUDSTA Display Case: Spare Parts, Hinges and Troubleshooting Guide

The door opens on its own. The hinge has play. The magnet no longer holds. These three problems account for the majority of requests regarding the RUDSTA. Here are the references and solutions.

RUDSTA Variants: Which Version Do You Have?

The RUDSTA is available in two formats and three colors (anthracite, light green, blue). This is not a cosmetic detail. The door hinges differ depending on the version. Ordering the wrong reference is the most common mistake.

Model Dimensions (W x D x H) Feature
RUDSTA wide 80 x 37 x 120 cm Horizontal format, 2 glass doors
RUDSTA high 42 x 37 x 155 cm Vertical format, 2 glass doors

Both formats share the same assembly logic. However, the hinges are not identical between the wide and high versions. Always check your instructions before ordering.

Parts That Fail First

Glass Door Hinges: The Critical Part

This is the most stressed component. Each opening transmits direct stress on both hinges. In a display case used as an indoor greenhouse – a very common use – humidity and daily handling accelerate degradation.

The references for RUDSTA hinges:

  • Glass door hinge: #133304 and #10092181 (depending on the version – compare with your instructions)
  • Associated hinge screws: #114664 and #126916

These hinges are specific to the RUDSTA. They are not interchangeable with those of a BESTA, a DETOLF or another IKEA display case.

To identify the correct reference: open the instructions provided with the display case. The parts list is on the last page. If you no longer have it, download it from ikea.com (section "Product Information") or from manuals.plus by searching for "IKEA RUDSTA".

Door Closing Magnets

The RUDSTA glass doors are held in place by magnets embedded in the frame. Over time, the magnet loses its strength or becomes detached.

Immediate symptom: the door comes slightly ajar, especially if the display case is not perfectly level.

Two solutions depending on the condition:

  • Magnet intact but misaligned: a spot of epoxy glue in the housing is sufficient.
  • Broken or demagnetized magnet: contact the IKEA customer service with the serial number of your display case.

Adjustable Feet

The RUDSTA is equipped with adjustable feet. Furniture that is not leveled creates permanent stress on the hinges. If a foot disappears or cracks, it is a standard part available from customer service.

The Blocking Point: The Tempered Glass Door

The glass in the RUDSTA doors is tempered glass. It is 4 to 5 times more resistant than ordinary glass. But its resistance has a direct downside.

In the event of breakage, there is no door sold separately. Tempered glass cannot be cut or repaired. IKEA does not market RUDSTA doors as an isolated spare part. If a door breaks, replacement involves the entire display case – or a customer service claim if the breakage is related to a defect.

When tempered glass breaks, it fragments into small, rounded beads, not sharp shards. This is intentional for safety. But it also means the door is irreparable.

If your door has a visible micro-crack, stop using the door. Tempered glass that is already weakened can shatter completely without warning.

Common Problems and Solutions

The door no longer closes correctly. Check the level of the display case with a bubble level. Furniture tilted by 2 mm is enough to misalign it. Adjust the feet. If the problem persists, check that the hinge screws are tight – they gradually loosen on heavy doors.

The hinge comes loose despite tightening. The screw hole has widened in the metal. Do not force it – you will worsen the problem. Contact IKEA customer service for a replacement. If the display case is out of warranty, a slightly longer screw (same diameter, +2 to 3 mm) may regain support in the material.

One side of the door gradually descends. The lower hinge is giving way under the weight of the glass. This is often due to repeated movements or high humidity (greenhouse use). Hinge replacement is necessary.

The glass has a micro-crack. Stop using the door. Report to IKEA customer service with a photo if the display case is less than 2 years old.

FAQ

Are RUDSTA hinges compatible with other IKEA display cases?
No. RUDSTA hinges (#133304 / #10092181) are specific to this display case. They do not adapt to a BESTA, a DETOLF or any other range.

How do I know which hinge reference corresponds to my RUDSTA?
Open the assembly instructions – the parts list on the last page indicates the exact numbers. If you no longer have it, download it from ikea.com or from manuals.plus by searching for "IKEA RUDSTA".

Can you only replace the broken glass door?
No. IKEA does not sell RUDSTA doors as spare parts. Tempered glass cannot be recut. In case of breakage, complete replacement of the display case is the only option, except for a customer service claim for a manufacturing defect.

Is the RUDSTA suitable as an indoor greenhouse?
The metal structure and glass doors lend themselves to it, but this is not the intended use. Prolonged humidity accelerates wear on the hinges. If you make this alternative use, inspect the hinges every six months.

Are the RUDSTA adjustable feet available as spare parts?
Yes. These are standard parts available from IKEA customer service. Mention the name of the furniture (RUDSTA) and the dimension of your display case when making your request.
