IKEA wardrobe spare parts: the guide to repairing your furniture

A PAX door that rubs or a drawer that sticks? It is not inevitable. A simple adjustment or the replacement of a wear part is often enough to save your furniture. There is no need to buy everything new.

Which wardrobe model do you own?

PAX, PLATSA, and BESTÅ do not use the same hardware. The PAX system relies on the KOMPLEMENT range for its modularity. PLATSA is lighter, designed for small spaces. BESTÅ uses specific hinges for a clean design.

Check the model name in your manual. This is the essential element for identifying the exact part.

Why is my IKEA furniture wobbling?

A leaning wardrobe quickly becomes dangerous, especially for large PAX frames. Their stability depends on precise assembly.

The culprit is often the eccentric cam (ref. 110519). This metal drum locks the panels. Over time, it loosens or breaks if too much force was used during assembly. The furniture then becomes unstable. Check each fixing point and tighten them firmly.

The back panel is also crucial. It ensures the furniture is square. If it detaches, the wardrobe leans and the doors no longer align. Check the nails or plastic fasteners to prevent your wardrobe from becoming a parallelogram.

How to repair a sagging door?

This is the most common issue. The door rubs at the bottom or no longer closes. The problem almost always comes from the hinge (ref. 100345).

Before replacing the part, try an adjustment. IKEA hinges are adjustable on three axes:

  1. Lateral alignment: Turn the central screw of the arm. Right to move the door closer to the frame, left to move it away.
  2. Depth: Use the screw at the back of the arm to press the door against the furniture.
  3. Height: Loosen the base screws, slide the door upwards, and retighten.

If the screw has torn the wood, the particle board is crumbled. Install a metal repair plate to recreate a solid anchor point.

Why is my KOMPLEMENT drawer no longer closing?

A drawer that bounces often indicates a soft-close issue. First, check that no clothing or debris is blocking the path at the back of the rail.

If nothing is stuck, reset the system. Pull the drawer out fully, then close it normally. This rearms the automatic damper.

If the problem persists, examine the slides (ref. 128511). The steel balls wear out or the rail deforms under weight. Check that the fixing screws are tight. A slightly tilted rail is enough to block the closing.

How to disassemble your wardrobe without breaking everything?

Disassembling a PAX is risky for the dowels (ref. 101352) and screws.

Empty everything to lighten the structure. Remove the back panel carefully; it is the most fragile part. Then loosen the eccentric cams by a half-turn and separate the panels without forcing them.

Protect the edges with stretch wrap or cardboard to avoid chips during transport. Keep the adjustable feet safe: they are essential for getting straight doors in your new home.

Pro tips for saving your furniture

IKEA particle board crumbles quickly. Here is how to reinforce it.

The toothpick trick
A hinge screw no longer holds? Fill the hole with two toothpicks soaked in white wood glue. Cut the excess flush and screw back in. The added wood fills the void and gives the screw grip again.

Choosing wall plugs
To fix a wardrobe into drywall, avoid plastic plugs. Use Molly bolts. They expand behind the board and offer the only real security for a loaded piece of furniture.

Rail maintenance
To eliminate squeaks, avoid thick grease which attracts dust. Use a dry silicone spray. Apply to the rail, let dry, and wipe off the excess.

Perfect squaring
Before fixing the back of a piece of furniture, measure the two diagonals with a tape measure. They must be identical. If they are not, push the furniture slightly before nailing every 10 centimeters.
